# Phone numbers

> Get a new number, forward the one you have, or move it to Kallabot. Then choose who answers it.

Your agent needs a phone number to take and make calls. Open **Numbers** and click **Add**. You have four ways in:

> [card] [Forward a number you already have](#forward-your-number)
>
> Keep your number and your phone company. Calls you miss, or all calls, go to your agent. Easiest way to start.

> [card] [Get a new number](#get-a-new-number)
>
> Local, mobile or toll-free numbers in many countries.

> [card] [Move your number to Kallabot](#move-port-your-number)
>
> Bring your existing number over for good.

> [card] [Connect your phone company or office system](https://docs.kallabot.com/guides/bring-your-own-carrier.md)
>
> Use your own carrier (Twilio, DIDWW and others) or your office phone system.

## Forward your number

You keep your number and your phone company. You just tell your phone to send calls to Kallabot.

**1. Choose where calls go**

In **Numbers → Add → Forward a number you already have**, pick the agent that should answer.

**2. Turn on forwarding**

Kallabot shows you a short code to dial from your phone, such as `**21*…#` to forward every call. Dial it. Most mobile networks also let you forward only when you're busy or don't answer.

**3. Test it**

Call your number from another phone. Your agent should answer.

## Get a new number

**1. Choose a country and type**

**Numbers → Add → Get a new number.** Pick the country, then local, mobile or toll-free. You can search for digits you'd like in the number.

**2. Verify your business, if the country asks**

Many countries need proof of who you are and where you are before a number is yours, like a trade licence and an address. Kallabot tells you exactly what's needed. If the number needs a verification, it's saved for you and bought automatically as soon as the verification is approved. See [Verification](https://docs.kallabot.com/guides/verification.md).

**3. Choose who answers**

Pick the agent for the number. It's live straight away.

Can't find the area you need? Use **Request a number** and our team sources it for you.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Some numbers can only **receive** calls. UAE local numbers are one example. To make calls from the UAE, add a number that can call out, such as a mobile or a number from your own carrier.

## Move (port) your number

Moving a number means it leaves your old phone company and lives with Kallabot. In **Numbers → Add → Move a number you have**, enter the number and follow the steps. You'll need a recent bill or letter from your current provider.

* **US numbers** move through an automatic transfer. Kallabot tracks each step and tells you when it's done.
* **Other countries** are handled by our team with your old provider. We'll keep you posted by email.

Your number keeps working with your old provider until the move completes.

## Choose who answers

Open a number to set it up:

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Agent** | Which agent answers calls to this number. |
| **Ring a person first** | Rings someone's phone first for a set time. If nobody picks up, the agent answers. |
| **Only ring a person** | Calls go to a person, not the agent. |
| **Office hours** | Ringing a person only happens inside your hours. Outside them, the agent answers straight away. |
| **Forward when the agent can't answer** | If the agent is busy or unavailable, the call is forwarded to a number you choose instead of failing. |
| **Label** | A name your team sees, like "Marina branch". |

## Calling out

When an agent makes a call, it uses its own **caller number**. Set it per agent in **Numbers**. If you don't, Kallabot uses a number from the agent's branch.

To be recognised and avoid "spam likely" warnings when you call people, see [Caller trust](https://docs.kallabot.com/guides/caller-trust.md).

## Releasing a number

Release a number you no longer need from its settings. **This can't be undone**: the number goes back to the phone company and someone else may get it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Agents never call emergency numbers, and can't be set to transfer to them.
