# WhatsApp

> Connect your WhatsApp Business number and let your agent reply to customers, day and night.

Your agent can answer WhatsApp messages on your business number: questions, prices, bookings, follow-ups. It uses the same knowledge and tools as on the phone, and hands over to your team when a person is needed.

## Connect your number

You connect WhatsApp with your Facebook (Meta) login, in a window from Meta. It takes about five minutes.

**1. Open the agent's Channels**

Open your agent (or **Agents → Create agent ▾ → WhatsApp agent**) and go to **Channels → WhatsApp**.

**2. Sign in with Meta**

Click **Continue with Facebook**. A Facebook window opens. Sign in with the account that manages your business.

**3. Pick your business and number**

Choose your business and your WhatsApp number, or add a new one. Meta may text or call the number with a code to confirm it's yours.

**4. Come back to Kallabot**

Keep the Kallabot tab open. When the Facebook window closes, the number shows as connected. Choose the agent that answers it.

> [!TIP]
>
> Already use the **WhatsApp Business app** on your phone? You can connect that same number and keep using the app. Messages you send from the app show up in Kallabot too, and the agent steps back in that chat while you're talking.

## Set it up in the studio

Each WhatsApp number has a studio with everything about how the agent behaves there:

| Section | What you set |
| - | - |
| **Agent** | Which agent answers, and anything it should do differently on WhatsApp. |
| **Profile** | The business profile customers see: photo, description, address and website. |
| **Conversation** | The greeting, and an optional photo, document or link with it (like a menu). |
| **Knowledge base** | Which knowledge it answers from on WhatsApp. |
| **Connections** | The tools it can use here, like your calendar. |
| **Workflows** | WhatsApp flows: step-by-step forms inside the chat, for things like bookings. |
| **Human hand-off** | When to pass a chat to your team. |
| **Guardrails** | What the agent should stay away from. |
| **Timing** | Your hours, and how it behaves outside them. |
| **Go live** | Check everything and switch it on. |

Try your setup in the studio's chat playground before customers see it.

## Message templates

WhatsApp only lets businesses send free-form messages within **24 hours** of the customer's last message. To start a conversation after that, like a reminder or a follow-up, you send an approved **template**.

Create templates in the studio. Meta reviews each one, usually within minutes to a day. Where a template has blanks (like a customer's name), give an example for each one, because Meta asks for it.

## Phone calls plus WhatsApp

During a phone call, your agent can send the caller a WhatsApp, like your location, a price list or a booking confirmation. Turn on **Send a WhatsApp message** in the agent's [Tools](https://docs.kallabot.com/guides/tools.md).

## When your team replies

All WhatsApp chats are in your [Inbox](https://docs.kallabot.com/guides/inbox.md). You can read along, take over and reply yourself, then hand the chat back to the agent.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Meta charges for some WhatsApp conversations, such as those started with a template. Those charges are Meta's, and depend on the country.
